ABOUT CIARA ELWIS

Ciara is an Emmy award-winning music supervisor who works across film and television. She is best known for Sharon Horgan’s Bad Sisters (Apple Tv+), for which she received nominations at the Hollywood Music and Media and Guild of Music Supervisors’ awards; the BIFA award-winning feature Femme; Ricky Gervais’s Afterlife (Netflix); and Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You (HBO) – her work on the latter winning her an Emmy award as well as features in the NY Times, the LA Times, and Billboard discussing the huge impact of the soundtrack. In 2022, she was named as one of Forbes’ 30 under 30 in the Entertainment category.

 

Her feature film work includes David Yates’ Pain Hustlers (Netflix); Number One on the Call Sheet (Apple TV+); Simon Pegg’s Slaughterhouse Rulez (Sony Pictures); Joanna Hogg’s The Souvenir trilogy (starring Tilda Swinton for A24); and Ng Choon Ping and Sam Freeman’s award-winning indie feature debut Femme, for which she received a BIFA (British Independent Film Awards) nomination for her music supervision work. Her numerous successful TV series credits also include the BAFTA-winning This Way Up (Ch4/Hulu) and work on the critically acclaimed Sex Education (Ch4/Netflix) and The End of the F***ing World (Netflix).

 

Best known for her creative approach to building soundtracks, Ciara is comfortable working across all stages of production, from providing advice during script development through to licensing. She has a wealth of experience in period-specific research and on-set supervision for everything from prepping lead actors’ performances (Margo’s Got Money Troubles) to jazz quartets (Last Letter from Your Lover), to overseeing the formation of ‘Tudor Rock’ bands (My Lady Jane).

 

Ciara also has a successful history of working with artists – from commissioning original songs to assisting their transition into scoring. Artist collaborations include those with Charli XCX (Nasty Cherry), PJ Harvey (Bad Sisters), Laura Mvula (Everything Now), Michael Kiwanuka (Convergence) and Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim (Ibiza: The Silent Movie). Most recently, she produced an album of original covers for Amazon’s critical hit series My Lady Jane, showcasing the best of new British talent including Griff and CHINCHILLA.

 

Among her REcent releases are The Shallow Tale of a Writer who Decided to Write about a Serial Killer (directed by the two-time Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Tolga Karaçelik); AppleTV+’s The Last Frontier from showrunner Jon Bokencamp; AND SALLY WAINWRIGHT's RIOT WOMAN (BBC).
